Transnational initiative for young people in Middle-Saxony Project Outline

The federal Ministry for Work and Social Affairs has initiated a new programme in conjunction with IDA (integration through exchange). The project focuses on empowering young unemployed adults through European mobility and exchange programmes, in order to gain social and professional experience that will allow them to compete within the wider European and foreign labour market.

The educational institute PSCHERER gGmBH, together with GSQ (Association for Structure development and Qualifications) and ARGE Freiberg (job centre) have developed the programme ‘Transnational Initiative for Young People in Middle-Saxony” and will implement this programme together between 01/10/2009 and 30/06/2012.

The project is aided by both the Federal Ministry for Work and Social Affairs and the European Social Fund, which will finance the programme. This financial assistance will cover flights, accommodation, subsistence, supervision, the language course and daily travelcards as well as medical and liability insurance.

In order to realize the exchange programmes and the participants to carry these out within a European country, Embrace Cooperation Ltd, which has many years’ experience with Loeonardo da Vinci exchange programmes, will work with us as a transnational partner.

Germany

For the implementation of the project, we work with ARGE Freiberg, which allocates young people into employment programmes with GSQ.

During this time the participants will undertake various tests, interviews and observations. The participants who have the appropriate level of readiness will then have the choice of possible foreign exchange placements.

After the completion of the government-funded employment programme, those who are ready for a European exchange will then take part in a 2-week preparatory training course. Here, they will create their EUROPASS CV in English. A 6 -week stay in London with Embrace Cooperation Ltd will then follow.

England

Beginning with a 2- week language course, the participants will then complete a 4-week work-placement, of which all types are available.
Upon completion of the project, every participant will receive a EUROPASS mobility certificate, a placement reference and a certificate from Embrace regarding the English language course, their personal development and cultural education. They will also receive a participant certificate for taking part in the language course and work placement.

Once the project is completed, the participants will be continually supported by the project partner in their job search, locally, nationally and internationally.

Last weekend we were all in Oxford. I was the only one who wanted to get an overview on the whole University, so I took an amazing bus tour. Even if it had cost a little the guide had shown me unforgettable collages e. g. where Bill Clinton, Mahatma Ghandi and Oscar Wilde studied.. Afterwards I did a lot of shopping one more time ,-), eating walked along the small river in the park, and last but not least I enjoied my first cider of the day in a bar with a Live Jazz Improvisation Band entertaining.

It’s getting a horrible idea in my mind to have to leave in a week.

At work I found out more than ever that it’s that important to open my mouth and talk with my colleagues as well as with my bosses, but otherwise I feel like I’ve done nearly nothing in the last six weeks at work, as if I know nobody and I’m still being an alien in London and in The Folly. So, even if everybody including my bosses telling me always that I do a good job I just can’t believe that I would be able to work here with that less skills I have. I’d just believe it if The Folly offers me a job. I want that job I’m already doing because I’d really like to stay here for a longer time.

For the time being I focus on proactive communication to build up my future here.

Just 7 days left to be in London. And there are two sites. One that is happy to go back home and one that want to stay here. But I need time alone without 14 others around me even it was a funny time.

My week at work was very fantastic. I wrote an article about an event in my office and yesterday it was published at the OBV website. So I am very proud of it. The other days I did typical office stuff like database, phone calls and writing letters. The biggest challenge for me was to call the whole time High Commissions in London, because I often had problems in understanding those people. Also writing an article in English was not really easy for me, but I did it.

Because of the long working time and the long journey from the East to the West I had not much time to do anything around London. At the weekend some of us visited Hampstead Heath and the Angel station after the annoying Saturday excursion to Oxford. So believe me to travel in a group of 17 and your not allowed to explore the environment by your own is terrible. Every time you have to wait for someone and that’s nerve-tracking.
So I will enjoy the last week here in London because I finished my placements, so I just have to make my LifeDream presentation the next week. And most of it is in my head so I will use the 3 days to finish it. And do the final shopping tour for my family….

Jennifer

This week was good. I was working in the same shop. I was sorting the dishes, toys, souvenirs and pictures and placing them on the shelves.
On this week I visited are Modern Gallery and Kew Garden. I liked is very much, it was
very interesting.
On the next week I will finish the presentation and well prepare for the travel back.
I miss my family and hope that the last week will be over soon.

Olga

Hello everybody,

My week was very stressful. I was working all the time and I was not in the city this week. So… the last week begin NOW!!!! The Countdown. We have many things to do… buy some presents, postcards, see a lot… have a party… . And I must work.

Last week I have written emails to other companies, go around and take some pictures from the placements. Very often I went the wrong way ☺ but a very nice guy show me the way. I began to make my presentation I change my life dream. I want to play in a famous orchestra my Saxophone. I hope the last weekend will be good. I am happy that
We go home next Friday, it was a good time, but home is home.

Susanna

This week was both, enjoyable and just a wee bit sad. Enjoyable, as I just felt like I was living every moment. Sad, because we will all be on a plane back home next week.
Actually London has become home to me. I enjoy the lively atmosphere, the worldly air and all the culture in the city. Even work has been quite enjoyable, as I just quit thinking about what I am actually doing - and just went with it instead.

This week was a very relaxing one. But also a sad week. I know the importance to enjoy every day and every moment.
I discovered a lot of places (Greenwich Park and Tower Bridge). I am happy about the nice weather predicted for weekend by wetteronline.de (haha). I still love London but I can’t imagine live here for a longer time, because it’s not a healthy life. I am a country-girl through and through…

Theresa

Today I have to write two blogs because I forgot to write one last week.

On Saturday I visited the Queens Birthday Parade. I had a good view of the Queen and Kate. The next day I went to the RAF Museum again, because I like it so much. It gave me the opportunity to take some better pictures, too. From Monday till Thursday I worked at Oxfam. It wasn’t very busy, but not on Thursday my boss completely pissed off. The reason was his boss who checked every little detail of the shop and she found some objections.
The following week was quite good. We made a trip to Oxford. I don’t want to go into details… On Sunday I went to the city to look for sport cars, because I like the design and the sound of them ;) The work at Oxfam was very busy, not because of the customers, but of the problems with the general manager the week before. On Wednesday we had a free day and went to Brighton. It was very nice and the weather fitted, too. That’s all.

Marcel

This week I have sometimes the feeling that I can spend more time here in England. Maybe I would live here for a couple of months. But now my time here is nearly ending.
So I am a little bit sad about that. But I want to travel a lot by tube this weekend and next week. My goal is to see most of the nicest stations and to photographed them.
Cheers!

Andi

This week work in placement and privately going shopping shoes, clothes etc. The 7 weeks in England find I easy, is was a beautiful and a hard time. No Holiday in England ;)
I find absolutely the Tube, this is my best friend ;) I was missing the Tube ☹.

Here a pair pictures out of the work from 7 Weeks ☺

This since the park Rangers ;)

This is slowly and releaxing work in Londons wildlifepark ;)

Cheers Ronny
Hello, my week was very crazy. I missed the tickets for the group at embrace… I stand 15 minutes with the tube in the tunnel… I get lost… I was in the “forest”… Very crazy, but I survive the week. I feel ok, but I am sleepless in London. And I work long, so that I can’t visit London under the week. It is ok. Sometimes I want to go home, I miss my family, I miss my boyfriend… In 2 weeks I am at home. And then I will miss London.
Susi

This week I started my new placement at OBV. It was very interesting, funny and full of different tasks. The first 2 days I helped my colleague Merlene with her seminar about magistrates. So I had to pack the packages, copied some plans etc.
On Monday and Thursday I also had to make a video with Teasha, the volunteer from USA for the OBV website. But it was not that funny because no one wanted to say a little sentence for us. At the end of the week we found 6 people.
During my tasks I also had to make some database stuff with Rafiq, clean the office and print labels.
Now I have to work just one more week at placement and the last week I will use to explore London. Then in exactly 2 weeks we flying back home and I am happy about that, but I also will miss some people and the atmosphere of London.

Jennifer

I reckon it was just another week at the office. Thus, I am fully confident with the tasks I am doing. I’d prefer to gain a few more skills now, though. Just to progress on the job.

Despite a relatively uneventful week at work, I continue to enjoy London greatly. The weekend was pretty darn good as well. Nights out on the town just can’t be beaten by squeaky hostel beds. It seems surreal that it will all be over so soon. Shame!
Petra

This week a got many tasks and I had a lot to do at work. So it was necessary to ask my colleagues permanently. In my opinion a have very nice colleagues. There is one guy from Tanzania and one guy from the US and they are so funny…

I still enjoy the city, although the weather is bad, the summer is going to leave. Maybe when we leave London it becomes better. There are so many places to discover, but the time is running away.
Next week the most important Grand Slam Tournament starts – Wimbledon. I wanna buy a ticket. This would be great.

Theresa

This I’m getting ill. I have cold my throat and so I felt myself not so good. Now it’s getting better. The work is very funny and I learnt a lot about quality differences between USA and China built guitars.

Thursday 16 June 2011

The third week starts with a bank holiday so I had the chance to visit the Science Museum, which was very interesting. From Tuesday till Thursday I worked in my placement at Communities Empowerment Networks (CEN). There I have to do some research about prevention programs. In my leisure I tried to visit more places in London, went shopping or visit museums and parks. In the evening I talked to many people from different countries and I always ask them about their political system and culture. Next week I will have a new job interview at OBV where I can work with political topics.

Jennifer

This week I finally started feeling comfortable with the tasks I am doing at the office, albeit I’m still finding it rather boring. Luckily people started noticing I am actually there. I’ve also finally managed to branch out more after work. Maybe too much. In any case I haven’t been sleeping much. Which left me pretty wired!

The last three weeks where very interesting. I have learned a lot of other cultures, languages, especially English. I do my placement at Embrace and it’s a good place to work and to improve my English.
I have seen many sights of London. ( e.g. the Tower, Buckingham Palace, Scienes Museum, British, Museum) The best day was last Saturday. The Champions Leaque Final match was in London at the Wembley Stadium. We went there by tube… many people, friendly people, singing people. It was so fantastic to feel the athmosphere in front of the stadium.
This weekend I want to go to a park and I want to enjoy the sun.

In this week I had my first day in my apprenticeship. It is a guitar shop with a really famous name in the scene. My boss is a Chinese man and he let me clean first all the expensive guitars in that shop. Then I had to tune all this beautiful instruments. We had one-hour chats and we laugh about the german and english stereotypes and drink a lot of white tea. After three days my boss give me a guitar for free use, so I can practice. It’s great!

Andreas

This week was very exciting because I worked at different areas at the Oxfame store. Although on Monday there was Bank Holiday I had to work. I worked at the till, I’ve never done this before. On Tuesday a colleague and me went to an old Lady who lives in Chelsea to take some donations. On Wednesday I had a free day. So I visited the National Army Museum and walked along the Chelsea Embankment. It was very nice. On Thursday I continued my placement. One of my tasks was to bring the money to the bank. I think this is very unusual compared to Germany that a placement student handles with the money of a store. I hope the next week will be as good as this week. See you soon!

Marcel

Hallo,
On Saturday I was working in a Russian School .My supervisor’s name is Rufina.
She is very cute and friendly. I was teaching Russian to the children.
This week J was in two Museums. I have seen many interesting things: minerals, fossils, and motorcar.
This week I had no work. My internship starts on Monday .I wont to improve my English and to see more of London.

Olga

Hey folks,

In this week I began to work in the biggest and greatest restaurant I’ve ever seen before. For the things that I’m telling You now I’ve got to say that my English skills are not perfect and I’ve never ever worked as a waiter before that.

The first work experiences in my work placement was….. well…. How could I say? It brought me down to earth. So. I had to deal with two problems: my language deficits AND my competence deficits. I really love to speak with people and make a lot of fun, but in English it seems my humor got lost in translation.

So…. What could I do?? I started to separate those two big problems form another. Then I began to solve my problem with the work competence. I don’t want to seem to be dramatic, but I really felt lost when I began to work at the first day.

But I gave everything. Now, after one week the confusion is nearly gone and it seems to get clearer and clearer what are the main tasks I have to watch for when I’m at work. And it starts to make fun. ☺ In this week on Thursday I had my first interesting conversations with my colleagues as well as with my customers.

The games have begun ☺

Friday 3 June 2011

Hello, I am Alex.
This is the second week in London.
In the first week we had some school at Brixton and the people from Embrace teach us some things about London maybe protect your live and your money and don’t go to Soho or at the park by night. So I was really afraid and confused in the first week.
Now I think for me, I will not live with fear in my head. So I get started my own adventure in London an when it will pass I go with friends in to the city.
I love the natural places in London like the ^Cleopatras needle^ or the parks like the Kew Gardens.

But in my opinion I think we talk too often german in the group, I don’t like the german speaking in UK because we are in London.

Good morning my name is Andreas.
I’m here in London with fithteen other persons from Saxony.
The flight was exiting and very nice. When we’ve arrived Heathrow airport, i was a little bit jetlegged. ;)
At the Hostel we have to used to the “English way of life”. The windows are very strange, the blankets are very thin, the noise from the underground trains is awful and the white bread is not so my taste. After 2 weeks in London we forgot these things, because we have so many new challenges to managing. I was very disappointed about my first two interviews for apprenticeship. But I understand the problem for the Embrace team to find an a apprenticeship for fithteen persons. Judith is a lovly woman who have still find an fine guitar shop for me and I hope that I can work there.
Keeping my fingers crossed. Bye!

My name is Angelika.
London is very nice. I have to learn to be patience. I wait and wait in an cold house on the work. My boss was don’t coming. My Pc is broken, is not good. My plan for next week is new pc or repair.
I myself unhappy, because I’m ill. ☹

Olla. My name is Manuela.
This is my first time in London and I like it very much. It was my first Fly to come here! On the beginning, I feel sick, but then we became some food in the Airplane and then I feel much better ;)
London is a nice City with many friendly and helpful peoples.
I work in Oxfam. I hope I can improve my English and advise some customers. C ya

Hello! My name is Marcel. I’ve never been to London before, so it’s my first time here in London and Great Britain.
The flight to Heathrow airport was very relaxed. I have seen a lot of sights of London yet, e. g. Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, the museums near South Kensington underground station. Last Saturday I took part on a stadium tour at Chelsea football stadium. It was very interesting and I did some great photos. I visited the Royal Airforce Museum, too.
I have no problems with the traffic and the underground system, but the weather is changing almost every hour, typical for the UK, isn’t it?
On Thursday my placement started at Oxfam, it’s ok but nothing special. I’d like to work at a museum, but it’s hard to find one which can provide it in such a short time.
Ok, these were my first days. Cya!

Hello, my name is marco.

That’s my first trip to London. London is a very big, nice and fast city.
I visited the Trafalgar square, the big Ben, the tower bridge and the ship MS Belfast.
The trips with the tube are fast but with extremely much people.
On Thursday starts my placement in the wildlife park near the river Thamse.
In the park I work as a gardener and landscaper. Our Boss is a nice and friendly
and she is full of energy. We have a friendly team leader and
colleagues. My Challenges are to improve my English and make trips to the city
of london.

kind regards M.B.

Seeeeeeeyouuuuuuuusoooooon!!!!!

I enjoy my trip and I love London. In my first week I saw a lot of London, and I visited many Parks here.

The life here is very exciting, so many people from different countries here!!! To go by Tube is like cinema.
I hope to improve my English, in the last week we will see ☺. Theresa

I’m thrilled to be in London.
I’ve already done loads, but feel like it’s nothing compared to the opportunities the city has to offer.
Works is a bit hard though, real intense but I feel I’m making no difference or contribution to the office whatsoever!

Hey there,

in the first week I just satisfied my basic needs: I’ve bought things like hygiene basics out of the drugstore, searched for the infrastructure around our hostel including the supermarket, the parks, a mobil phone sim card for calls between our groups here in town and for calls at home. Also we found some nice shops in our living area. I looked for a city map as well, and I found a very good one: The >>A to Z<<. It was very energy-wasting, but after all it makes live very comfortable, and I would recommend to all of You to make yourself a To-Do-List for absolutely necessary things in live You don’t want to miss. If You do, You’ll be prepared very quick and good for life here in London. I’ve build up my comfort-zone. Live and Personal Growth can begin now. ☺
